Staying at home if you have symptoms (self-isolation)
If your symptoms are mild, NHS 111 will usually advise you and anyone you live with not to leave your home. This is called self-isolation.
- Anyone with symptoms should self-isolate for 7 days from when their symptoms started.
- Anyone who does not have symptoms should self-isolate for 14 days from when the first person in your home started having symptoms.
Symptoms and what to do
The main symptoms of coronavirus are:
- high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
- new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
- loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
Most people with coronavirus have at least one of these symptoms.
What to do if you need medical help
If you have symptoms of coronavirus, use the 111 coronavirus service.
If you need help or advice not related to coronavirus:
- for health information and advice, use the NHS website or your GP surgery website
- for urgent medical help, use the NHS 111 online service – only call 111 if you're unable to get help online, or contact your GP surgery if in hours.
- for life-threatening emergencies, call 999 for an ambulance.
Check online at gov.uk and at nhs.uk (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/) for further information.

Any patients requiring information about testing please visit : https://www.gov.uk/apply-coronavirus-test. If you do not have access to or cannot use the internet, you can call a dedicated phone line, which can be used to order a test, if no other options are available.

Flu Vaccination 2019-20
Like previous years, we are offering flu vaccination at Gladstone Medical Centre. Flu is an unpredictable virus that can be unpleasant, but if you're otherwise healthy it'll usually clear up on its own within a week.
It can cause severe illness and even death among vulnerable groups, including older people, pregnant women and people with an underlying health condition.
Certain people are more likely to develop potentially serious complications of flu, such as bronchitis and pneumonia.
These people are advised to have a flu vaccine each year.
Flu can be very unpleasant for otherwise healthy people, but most people will recover from flu within a week or 2.
People who should have a flu vaccine
The injected flu vaccine is offered free of charge on the NHS to people who are at risk.
This is to help protect them against catching flu and developing serious complications.
For further details and to check if you are eligible of Free Flu Vaccination please contact the surgery at 0151 608 2519 For further details please click here.
